The Harbourview Funeral Centre was first established in 1997 by Ray and Virginia Leino. Ray, a Funeral Director who has served the City of Thunder Bay for over 44 years, first began his career at Sargent and Sons Funeral Home. It had always been a dream of his to own his own Funeral Home and after his short lived retirement he purchased the former C.N.I.B Cumberland Hall building and began renovations with the help of his wife.
Open for business in September of 1997, the Harbourview Funeral Centre broke the traditional tendencies of the other incumbent firms and endeavoured to provide a more complete package to the families they serve. First and foremost and certainly the most popular of these breakthroughs has been the on-site reception hall for post funeral gatherings. Together with many of the other no cost features and options it has made Harbourview Funeral Centre the fastest growing Funeral Home in North Western Ontario.
We serve all faiths, ethnicities and social demographics found in Thunder Bay and surrounding areas without any prejudices and have helped over 25oo at-need families and over 1000 pre-need families since opening in 1997. Harbourview has the ability to provide many different types of services, Traditional, Memorial, Graveside, Direct Cremation, Memorial Receptions, Traditional Wakes, Evening Prayer Services and Church Services.
Every family has a different idea of how to say their final goodbyes, and as such there are many other types of services that we have provided that do not have a generic title. As the years have gone by we have been very open to the changing needs and wants of the families we have served. As a staff we take great pride in helping carry out their final wishes. We possess the flexibility to accommodate each family and their friends as well as the devotion to easing the great loss that the family has experienced.
